Job Description

This is an expression of interest. Chiyoda is keen to speak with experienced Material Handling Engineer, in view of a potential employment at our Japan Headquarters.


  • Understand Client’s requirements and perform consistent design according to the project specifications and procedures.
  • Establish discipline engineering execution plan based on the project strategy / policy / requirements / schedule.
  • Ensure schedule compliance, and manage design input / output schedule to be in line with project overall schedule.
  • Properly handle all engineering interface / communication with Client, Project Team and other disciplines.
  • Responsible for all technical matters and job execution.
  • Manage team members for the project to maintain quality, schedule and budget. Support / assist / guide team members for project execution aspects.
  • Ensure past lessons learnt are considered and implemented.
  • Prepare reports on job progress / status on the assigned project.
  • Carry out preparation & review of requisition, specification, data sheet, technical bid evaluation, and vendor print review to ensure that quality and requirements are met.
  • Review tender requirement and identify any special requirement which requires assistance from external parties.
  • Clear and solve engineering issues at site and cooperate with construction department.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or related field required
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in package equipment / material handling equipment engineering in the oil and gas industry.
  • Preferably a successful career path in the oil and gas market in similar roles.
  • Preferably a Professional Engineering degree qualification, e.g. RPE in USA, but not essential.
  • Basic knowledge of package equipment / material handling equipment such as water treatment / waste water treatment, cooling tower, loading arm, ship loader, belt conveyor, reclaimers, milling machine, overhead crane etc.
  • Understanding and correct interpretation on technical specifications, drawings, code and standards for package equipment / material handling equipment.
  • Understanding of engineering schedule and critical path of project schedule.
  • Understanding of EPC execution work flow.
  • Ability to identify the risk areas in project execution and propose mitigation plans and countermeasures.
  • Excellent computer software literacy, using Microsoft Suite on a daily basis.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and to ensure a complete flow of required information.
  • Has a sound knowledge of safety issues relevant to the international companies and project operations.
  • Adhere to company and project specific health, safety and environmental plans and procedures.
  • Adhere to company and project specific quality management systems and procedures relevant to the role.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent command of English language (spoken and written) is mandatory.
  • All Engineers must adhere to company and project specific Health, Safety and Environmental Plans and Procedures.
